Stats show that Indigenous women are being murdered at a rate ten times the national average, despite Indigenous women comprising only 2% of the total population in the United States. Homicide is the leading cause of death for Indigenous women ages 10-24 and the fifth leading cause of death for Indigenous women 25-34. While the Bureau of Indian Affairs estimates there are 4,200 unsolved MMIP cases, the actual number is likely higher as there is no accurate count of how many Indigenous women go missing or are murdered annually.
