🩺 Expanding Impact: UNMUTED in Healthcare
We are entering a second phase of our impact campaign, focusing on advocacy. Engaging changemakers and driving impact through UNMUTED Episode 2: Cutting Season and Episode 3: Revealing the Scars, focusing on teaching hospitals, OB-GYN student groups, and plastic surgeons.
According to the WHO, more than 200 million girls and women worldwide have undergone FGM/C, with an estimated 4 million more at risk each year. Yet many clinicians in the U.S. have never been trained to recognize or treat it.
Following a recent screening, a pediatrician shared that they had encountered a patient affected by FGM/C but felt unprepared to respond, underscoring the need for greater awareness and education.
We provide a full screening toolkit and support for institutions and student groups, with options for in-person, virtual, or hybrid events.
From Screenings to Real-World Impact 🤝

In recognition of International Women’s Day, our friends at Unchained At Last hosted a special New York screening of UNMUTED: Child Brides at the Church Center for the United Nations, alongside a global virtual audience on Zoom. Around 100 people attended the screening in person, joined by many more who joined online from across the globe.
The panel brought together director and showrunner Dena Hysell-Cornejo, survivor Jenn Bradbury, Fraidy Reiss, Founder of Unchained At Last, and Mona Sinha, Global Executive Director of Equality Now, one of UNMUTED’s nonprofit partners. Together, they explored the realities of child marriage across regions, highlighting both shared challenges and important differences between contexts such as the U.S. and India.
The conversation resonated with a diverse audience, with attendees joining from Europe, Africa, Southeast Asia, and North America. Moments like this reflect the role UNMUTED can play beyond the screen, fostering conversation, deepening understanding, and creating space for connection and action.
